Welcome to Dances with waves.

This site is to be used as an information resource point for paddling enthusiasts and to promote awareness of a series of regular courses we are going to hold in the near future.

We are based in Peterhead on the north east coast of Scotland. The sea is all around us, with some great beaches and surf near by. We have a reasonable amount of choice rivers too.

Dancing with waves…pretty much sums it up because that's what we like to do.

It was all smiles in the Peterhead swimming pool getting to grips with kayaks for the first time. Eleven guys and gals eagerly stepped up to take part in the beginner course. It aims to give a general grounding to canoeing.

The session gave the basics for water confidence and intended as a fore running to rolling. Being upsides-down in water adds stress that puts people off picking up this skill quickly. We got down below under, wrestled and stood up in the kayak before practising capsize drills. Overcoming fears by playing silly games.

The course moves into the colder environment of the Peterhead marina next week where the focus is on paddle strokes. Here comes the summer!
