People

Over the years there have been a few people who have left not only a memorable impression on me, but have taught and mentored me in the sport.

They are too many to mention, but without turning into an Oscar ceremony acceptance speech I would like to personally say thank you to Donnie McLean for always being there, during the first few years for me. You have served the club well for more than a twenty year period, hauling trailers here and there, being a mentor and friend. Thanks.

To Alie Johnson, what can I say!  Man of few words and a pillar of strength.  Alie is truly passionate about paddling. Always encouraging no matter what his personal circumstance may be. A man above men.

I have always regarded Jim Gibson as my mentor, if he likes it or not, like Alie, he is truly inspiring.  Jim looks to instil confidence in his student and challenges his understanding of techniques to assist everyone’s awareness particularly through changes in boat design.
Not forgetting Craig Watson for introducing me into kayaking. He dragged me along to the pool session like some sort of gooseberry to a date, so he could go back to the place he loved.  He is a true friend.

And to the younger paddlers who are full of enthusiasm and are passionate about what they are doing, I would like to say thank you for teaching an old dog new tricks every time we are on the water.
